In the year 2019, Coronavirus (COVID-19) suddenly appears and spreads exponentially region-wise. This pandemic has affected our daily life and is slowing down the global economy. International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is aware of this issue and amended the standard on emphasizing protection against viral and bacterial.
EN ISO 374-5 Virus and ASTM F 1671
In the European Union, the EN ISO 374-5 VIRUS standard specifies the ability of gloves to protect users against micro-organisms (bacteria, fungi, and viruses). Previously, the standard for micro-organisms risk was formerly under EN ISO 374-2, but now, it has been developed and separated as EN 374-5. Before testing the EN ISO 374-5 Virus, the gloves must pass the leak test according to EN 374-2: 2014. The possibility of claiming protection against viruses has been added if the glove passes the ISO 16604: 2004 test (method B).
In North America, the ability of gloves to protect against micro-organisms is defined by ASTM F 1671. Just like with ISO 16603/16604, a bacteriophage is added to one side of a testing chamber, and pressure is applied for a period. This testing is to measure if any micro-organisms, like viruses, can penetrate through the glove. Gloves must pass ASTM F 1671 pass/fail test to certify protection against micro-organisms like bacteria or viruses.
People should also take serious precautions such as extensive hygiene protocol to prevent getting sick or being killed by this disease.

- ISO21074: indicates that the gloves have excellent sterilization, which can ensure the cleanliness of users’ hands for a long time
- OEKO TEX Standard 100: indicates that the product conforms to the safe products, and is skin-friendly and harmless.
